Arrived at 10:00 to find about a 3' swell with no wind, the pb Queen of Hearts was fishing straight out and another 3 party boats were a mile or two up the coast. I launched left side with no problems and headed up the coast after going out and around the wash rock. On my first drop I caught a china cod on a plain swim bait. Over the next two hours I caught 3 Cabazone (kept one 20") and about 10 R-cod (kept 5) all on plain swim baits. The drift was very slow so when I got on them the action was fast! The weather got better as the day went on. It felt good being able to talk to my shore crew using my West Marine handheld VHF250 (FRS band). There were no other kayakers out.

It was all I could do not to stop at Bean on my way north to Elk Friday morning. FAC conditions, no wind to speak of.
saw one yellow kayak on a truck in the parking lot there on my way home Sunday, conditions were not quite as nice but it was 3:30pm.

A bunch of times this year it has been less windy north of pigeon point. I kind of learned a wind lesson saturday by going to davenport and it was windy and foggy. launch was super easy, but what good is that if you can't fish?

I should have driven further north saturday.

I wonder if johnK knows about the shark attack?

Hi John,

I was aware of the attack two weeks ago. Thought about it awhile, considered the odds and made the choice to go. I am going to order the kayak decal from http://www.sharkcamo.com
hope I can make it stick
