What things would you look out for when purchasing a used kayak to avoid getting a boat with issues? Can the plastic get damaged if it has been out in the sun too long? Are there other wear and tear issues that might not be obvious when visually inspecting the boat? What about the pedal drive systems, are those common points of failure?

I'm looking into buying a used kayak and want to avoid any potential pitfalls I might not be aware of.

Yes, yes, and yes.  :smt003  Cracks can be very dangerous on the water.
