Well I had the car loaded last night and woke up at 3:45am. The thunderstorm woke me up but I didn't think too much of it. I was watching the news while having breakfast while I got an amber alert for severe thunderstorm.... Waiting a bit longer and decided to stay home but now the weather seems better but it is kind of too late. Oh well I thought today was the day to go back on the water but I guess I will finish my bathroom instead.
Hope everyone is staying safe. Tight line everyone...

I went ahead and drove to HMB. There were about 10 other kayakers there watching the lightning strikes. On my weather radar app it looked like the cells were lined up to produce rain and lightning for another couple hours so I opted out and came back home. Everyone else headed on out. Had an unpleasant experience with lightning while camping in a tent, and do not care for a repeat.

We had a bit of wind and rain and, predictably, the power went out at about 2:45. PG&E is still assessing... It's nice to have a standby generator (actually, more of a necessity up here in the hills), but the noise wakes us up.

I was in Santa Cruz earlier this morning to pick up some breakfast and, of course, I had to stop by the harbor. There were not many boats for a Sunday, and  only a couple of kayaks. Probably, the lightening kept some people off the water. I'd like to go out tomorrow, but not sure about taking my AI with its 16' tall lightening rod...

Exactly. I was planning to hit HMB today but then saw that thunderstorm is coming... Sticker on my mast explicitly says it conducts electricity  :smt002

Same. Loaded up my AI and decided not to head out to HMB today because of the lightning.

I don't know electricity but wouldn't the mast or metal net protect us from a direct wire, highest point above surface?

P.S. I guess wearing full rubber suit could help too.

I don't know, it seems like one of those half-full, half-empty things. If I go out with my AI in sailing mode, lightening will hit the mast before it hits me. On the other hand, if I go out without the mast, my bald head is the highest point on the horizon...
