Hey all,  I am perhaps heading to the Rockwall in my kayak Wed 9/2 or Thur 9/3, if the air quality improves.  Fishing reports? Halibut? Any salmon or stripers?

The water does not have great visibility but there is a lot of bait in the water right now. Last week caught about a dozen shaker halibut about a 200 yards from the flag pole drifting brined shiners . This week there has been a strong striper run toward bay farm around the channel markers. I would join but I have a busy schedule this week. Good luck and let us know how you do.

I was there on Monday and not even a nibble.  However, that's only the second time that I've tried for halibut, and I don't really know what I'm doing.  I was using a shrimp fly with a swimbait on the bottom hook, tipped with squid.  I trolled out to the gap along the wall, then drifted back.  I also tried near the flagpole, but nada... tons of bait in the water everywhere though.

You could smell a bit of smoke in the air a bit, but its relatively better than where I live (San Jose).  I'm really sensitive to it, asthma etc...and I did fine out there... so most of you guys should be alright as far as the air is concerned.

Any tips for technique and/or location and what to look for on the fishfinder out there would be appreciated.

Wish I could join you, but I played hookie for 2 days out of the last 5...haha....

Good luck!

That was the first time I have ever drifted brined shiners (my bubbler died over night Or else they’d been alive) and it was epic to say the least. In my experience if there is a bite, the bite gets hot for all of about an hour and then disappears. It is your job to get to the right place at the right time when that happens.  Don’t be too hard on yourself. It is often times a crapshoot. Personally, I prefer the first half of incoming tide. This took me about a decade to learn as I was constantly skunked around ARW where I live.

Caught shaker butts there last sunday. Pretty slow bite overall, no keepers as far as I heard on the radio.

So, I fished Thursday 830 am to 1130 on a rising tide.  Super calm, no wind, and sorry to say NO BITES.  Used frozen herring with MooMoo recommended rig.

Fished around the Flag Pole (Balenna point) and along the rock wall. Saw some fish in the deeper sections (30 to 40 feet deep) and nothing liked what I was offering.

Oh well, it was beautiful to be on the water and the smoke/air quality was moderate.
