Hey all,

I've been cruising these forums for a while, and I finally got myself a pedal drive last week.  What a world of difference!
Been fishing for about a year, but I'm still a complete noob.

I'm in San Jose, but was in Monterey last Sunday and got on some pretty good-size fish for a maiden voyage.  I don't know many people that fish, nor anyone with a kayak, so it would be nice to get to know some folks that get why I'm constantly looking for ways to rationalize taking a day off midweek... I also have a 10 year old that I'd like to take out on a skiff, if anyone has tips on where I can rent one and get him on some bites.

Thanks all!

Welcome SD,
Never done it myself, but I hear you can rent a skiff in Santa Cruz for like $100...seems like fun.

Hopefully see you on the water one day! :smt006

Welcome, Yakdicted/SittingDuck.

You can rent a skiff at the Santa Cruz or Capitola wharf. I think it's currenty $150 for a day, and you can have up to 4 people. There is good rockfish fishing (rockfishing?) both places and a realistic chance for halibut this time of year. Although I've never rented one, I see them all the time, as I fish those same areas frequently.

If you do rent a skiff, try to get on the water as early as possible. And, let me know--if I happen to be out there the same day, I can point out some of my not-so-secret fishing spots...
