Ram Rodholder

I'm just starting to set up my Kayak. I have fish&dive that I bought used. I want to mount flush mount Ram 2000 rod holders on my gunnels at about my knees. They are a little too wide has anyone tried to cut the 2x4 flush mount to a diamond shape and drilled new holes, or does any one make a diamond shape flush mount that will fit the Ram 2000.
