Been a while since I have been able to get out on the yak due to “essential” work and other of life’s necessary evils. Did well at ARW in April/May. Not looking to blow up anyone’s spot nor looking for specific techniques or gps coordinates, I have my own.

Been itching to catch a door mat or two...Was just curious if the ARW part of the bay is worth my time for ‘buts as it’s been a couple months.

Any advice appreciated..DW

Seems like there have been a lot of windy days lately, big tide swings before that. I gave it a go a week or so back and got two shakers in the 40 mins I was on the water trolling a traditional three way bounce rig with a DIY flasher and rolled anchovy.

Wind blew me off pretty quick, but that’s what I get for only checking one wx site. I usually check windy.con as well as accuweather.com and tides4fishing.com.

I think the fish are there if you can find a day when the wind lays down enough. Good luck if you get out.

Thanks for the reply. The wind is always my first consideration out there..then the tides.

Tomorrow shows nothing over 9mph before noon, which is usually when I split. And an incoming tide from 0545-1230. It’s a good size swing -.5 to +5 feet, but incoming is my favorite to fish out there. Push against it early then ride it back in when done.

I’ll post if it pans out..

Tight lines.

Weather ideal til noon. Boated 8 halibut...zero of which were legal. Most nowhere close. Any science behind the smaller fish hanging out in the South Bay shallows longer than the bigs? Or did I just get unlucky?

I don't know anything about the science of it, but I can second your experience. Caught one legal and quite a few shakers at ARW in the last month, seems to be the same story for a lot of other guys out there too.

What depth are y'all fishing there?  I've been there a bunch and ironically have only caught shakers from shore - nothing from the kayak.  It's so shallow so far out expect for that little area.  Does anyone know what caused the depression near the wall?  I assumed it was excavation for the wall itself.

I have caught keeper class butts there from 5’ of water down to about 20’. Depends on the tide which can cause quite a variance in depth throughout the day, but 15’ seems to be the sweet spot when the butts are in.

I often enjoy fishing ARW just for the views of San Francisco.  If you are there for the 'buts however you maybe hard-pressed to find any of significant sizes there at the moment.  I fish there regularly and as of lately there I also just seem to catch a shaker here or there if I am even lucky to hook up on anything at all.  Good Luck!

I've been fishing it fairly regularly recently and its been overwhelmingly shakers for me lately. And as noted above, winds and tides have been working their magic. But there are good tide windows in between and some fish being caught... there also has been considerable more boat and people traffic at ARW this year, so arrive early you're not blowing up anybody's spot....good luck
