Barbless treble hooks are a thing and we use them up here for the lagoons.

Did you mean if you officially mooch with trolling “hooks” and keep it you’re breaking the law?

I'm referring to a "mooching rig" that's commonly sold with J hooks - totally legal to troll with, but totally not legal to mooch with (unless you're north of Horse Mtn.).

if it's not a slip but more than 5" apart also no go.

The space between the hooks or the slip/fixed ONLY matter if you're mooching - you can't mooch for salmon with anything but circle hooks south of Horse Mtn.

The whole point is that "mooching rigs" are illegal to mooch with (south of Horse Mtn.)...

I told you it can be confusing.
