Went squid jigging couple times and wondering if anyone know what squid look like on the fish finder.  It has been hit and miss with pure luck for the last couple trips.  Any tip is appreciated.

I've heard they appear as vertical lines, but never been able to validate it

I only have one trip's worth of experience with this, but when I fished off Monterey the squid would show up as very faint, diffuse bait clouds. Whenever I saw this on the finder I could jig squid, and whenever I didn't I couldn't.

I guess because they don't have a swim bladder they return a much weaker signal than fish like anchovies?

In the past they tend to show up as horizontal lines on the bottom of the FF. The WSB are horizontal lines on the top of the FF. Either way,
horizontal lines on a FF is good news all around.  :smt001 :smt001

I associate them with marks that look like lightening bolts.

On my 99 buck garmin, they look like dashed vertical ("up and down", I only mention that because some say they see horizontal lines, and I wonder how FF's can be so different) lines, but i have adjusted the FF ahead of time to see them and other small stuff.   Often, I see them for a few minutes, then pass over them and don't see them for a long time.
Or if you drag up a bunch of white egg cases from the bottom that look sort of like the body of squids,  you know squid have been around.
And if you get into a big patch of them, look up to watch for the big commie boats bearing down on you, regardless of right-of-way rules!
