Southbay shrimp flies

just sharing a pic of my shrimp flies. If you are into fly tying, they can be the easiest things to tie ever and you can be creative with colors and such. I’ve used Owner hooks for years, the straight worm wide gap, but Bass Pro in San Jose seems to have stopped selling them. Fishermen’s warehouse used to have great prices. Now the Bass Pro are a pretty good house brand. I figure a good sharp hook is better than my reflexes for that sort of thing. They’ve been cooperative on my homemade rigs.

These were Philly specials after they won the big game a few years back.

While the flies look like they are tied masterfully, the philly special has to be one of the ugliest color combos, you should try a nice red with some gold tinsel, tried and true out here and an absolutely beautiful color combo imho

Whereas the Silver and Black combo used to be a winner but now moves with little action and sporadically in the water and is now no longer available in California

2/0 hooks usually but sometimes a size bigger.

The Philly specials were indeed ugly and only ever caught the big one once and even lost out to the silver and black model. It seems like the reds work best as they appear in the mouths of fish i take pics of often.
