I got a 2nd hand report of herring spawn at Richmond May 27... the report was boiling fish, abundant sea lions and birds.... A herring spawn in May? Is it possible?

I'm betting massive anchovy school but hey I wasn't there...

I was there at the Ferry point launch with my son on the 26th.
I had a line out baited with shrimp while we were building sand castles.  Not a nibble, no bird diving, no sign of life.

Maybe I was a day early.

Eddie, that sounds more plausible. I've seen some big schools of chovies, but haven't kept track what time of year....
