Alright, no, this is not strictly a Kayak fishing question (I am still researching my first yak, I'll be there soon!).

But I know you guys have your tourney at Elk and presumably have some experience fishing there.

Has anyone ever fished from the beach/rocks at Elk? Or caught fish off a kayak within casting distance of the beach?

I am headed up that way this weekend and was considering fishing off the south side of the beach 'cos it looks really fishy.

Any info gratefully received.

'Sup NB!

I don't know how it's lookin' this year, but last year there were some good kelp beds right off shore on the north end of the cove.

I started kayak fishing to get away from most of you...

I would look for a perch on a rock above deeper water,to stay more vertical. Unless you have some kind of weedless rig, kelp and a horizontal presentation= snags. If there is a low tide you could walk out and poke pole for cabbies and such, drop down into the holes with squid or abalone guts.

The south end is really quite shallow.  To be honest there are beach fishing places with a much shorter walk, with as much promise.  Bring your yak!!!

I got a report from one of the secretary's at my office who said they were catching a lot of perch with cooked shrimp off the headlands in Mendocino. So, I'm sure they will be off the rocks of Elk.

P.S. Bite the bullet and buy a yak!

CHEERS!

Thanks all. I'll give it a go this weekend. I should have emphasised I'm after rockies rather than perch. The worst that can happen is I spend a morning sat on Elk beach with a beer or two!

I'm going to get out on a yak very soon, how many fish do I have to catch before I get my PFIC-NCKA graduation certificate?

(I'm not knocking PFIC, but a lot of the usernames on here sure look familiar........)
