the grey boat is my second boat, rigged differently than my yellow boat.

check that flush-mount-to-scotty adaptor in the back in the pic with the fish.

that's new and I haven't seen anybody else with one of those.

thornley rigged this boat more or less, I got it from him used with the scotty mount in the front center
and he put in two flushmounts behind the seat. no room on that boat to do much with those flushmounts in terms of aiming them and they suck for holding a rod as your paddle stroke can hit the rod.

So I got these cabelas flushmount to scotty adaptors. they are heavy and expensive and you don't have quite as much in the way of freedom to adjust them as I was hoping, plus the whole setup can pop out of the flushmount,
but my paddle blade does not hit my rod anymore back there. just remember to leash the contraption and lock your rod into the holder for travel.  If you have flushmounts and your paddle stroke hits your rod, these are an option.

and landing are a little tricky.

......i guess that's how Rockaway/Ocean Beach kinda takes care/cleans itself in the fall and winter by SCARING-OFF the infux of summer surfers ever year.

james, you worry me,  :smt005.

here's some of my friends in the bird and bait bust there when I got out.

and an over-the-shoulder-on-water-tankwell shot.

Two big sealions did come to check me out. I tossed them each a (live) blue out into the water, they streaked down after those guys like rockets, and fortunately did not come back for more.

J , I've been using one of those flush to scotty adapters to get a wider troll spread with two rods. It works, but is heavy and gets in my way in front when I want to swing my leg over the side. I guess I'm old and not so bendy anymore. :smt002

shim, hear you on the the not so bendy part,  :smt011.

however, it's a good excuse to go see my pilates instructor,  :smt061  :smt007.

those adaptors kinda work. not so thrilled with them. made from metal that is heavy and rusts. why they didn't make them from plastic I don't know that would have been better for kayaks. probably cause the target market is PB's with metal flushmounts.

so not great,  but if you have flushmounts already and are not really satisfied with them, this is an option.

I did get a scotty triple for my front center mounted scotty universal mount. that looks pretty good but kind of heavy for a boat I want to keep a little lighter for these beach excursions. will be nice for freshwater trolling tho.

John -

Nice stringer and beach. The RAM mounts also work well for the forward rod holder. Duane and I use them. PM me if you want company on your secret outings.

Hey John
I used to surf that spot quite a bit. But just a friendly warning, in my 15+ years of surfing that is the only place I have evering seen the man. I remember it well, I missed the set and was the only one outside. As my four compadres were paddling out I saw a large fin rise out of the water 20 yards in front of me. About three foot dorsal and the trailing fin about a foot tall and the thing I remember the most (besides the quiet panic that induced the fastest, quietest bent knee paddle into the beach) was the seal size bite taken out of the top of the dorsal. My buddies never doubted me for a secound when they asked why I was paddling in, because said one word...softly....and seriously...."shark".
When we got into the beach my sighting was reinforced by one of the other surfers in our group and a couple that had been walking on the beach.
But I have fished there many times from the yak and from the beach and have had many good days.
But I just dont feel comfortable surfing there anymore. I older now and mostly surf in town.
Nice haul though. And keep on surfing.
