I was concerned about storing the head unit for my Lowrance Hook2 7" fishfinder.  Friends with larger boats have used a padded case that was bought at Cabela's but they no longer make it.  I did several searches and located a padded case that works great for my Hook2 7" screen and ball mount.

LABRADAR PADDED CARRY CASE is a padded case for a chronograph but the dimensions are perfect for my fishfinder.  It has a zippered compartment as well if you need to store a cord or SD card or whatever.  The fit is snug enough so that the head unit doesn't slide around inside and it's padded to keep the screen safe.  I like the orange color of the exterior so it's easy to locate in my gear.

Another friend suggested a padded reel case from Cabela's that has removable foam cushion separators to custom fit a screen/head unit.  For $40 from Cabela's I was pretty happy with my Labradar find.

Cheaper option would be Lowrance screen protector ($15). Screen is pretty much the only thing you need to protect

The Pelican boxes are awesome for this and fully customizable. I have one for all my go pro stuff, guns, and fish finders. Go to Harbor Freight
