Randy and I are planning to look for some more stray salmon at Moss or Soldier's Club on Sunday.  On Saturday evening we will decide which location to target after we hear the reports.  Dawn, or so, launch planned.

I might join you if the reports look good and the fish are closer in.

Coastside is reporting easy limits out of Moss. Not sure how far out they're having to go, though.

Good luck, fellas....whoops....and lady(ies)!   :smt002

Those "easy limits" seem to be off of Mulligan's.  That is a six to eight mile paddle from the Moss launch.  Joel and Bill listened to boat after boat limiting yesterday while, closer in, we kept trolling....and trolling.......and trolling.........

We'll be looking/listenting for some closer action.

There are Salmon in Santa Cruz in 90 feet of water and near the mile buoy. I spoke to 2 different anglers who had 3 fish last night. There was one report of a limit at 36'50/121'57 in 215 feet of water. The angler was fishing alone and had a few other bites also. The Salmon are all over and you might want to try fishing close to Santa Cruz if the water is rough in the morning.

My partner and I are trying to decide where to go Sunday, Moss or Santa Cruz.  SC sounds so tempting...  I talked to a DFG warden there today and the folks at Bayside Marine, both indicated that there are fish being caught in SC but somehow I'd like to try Moss.  I'm pretty new at this and there's no way I'll make the trip to Soldier's Club and back to Moss with any time for fishing.  So maybe it will just be head out and look around.

What to do, what to do...

Can anyone tell me what kind of lure an FBR is?

Thanks,
Pete

Pete,
An FBR is a harness for fishing bait.  Somewhat similar to a Rotary Salmon Killer or Crippled Anchovy or Herring Aid.

Good Luck tomorrow if you go.  One buddy of mine fished today for limits out of Moss, but it took him all day (6fish).  Said the weather was great.  T shirts and no wind.

Stuart,

Thanks for the translation, I'm including rotary salamon killers tomorrow so guess I've got the FSB thing covered.

Any idea where you buddy was fishing outside of Moss?

Tha main school of fish has been hanging out off Mulligans for around a week now. I've limited out on my buddies boat twice in the past week. Thwe fish have been from 6-12 lbs or os on average. A few have also been picked up out in front of the harbor and to the north side of the canyon, though no real numbers have come out of this area. Another body of fish, this time a bit larger, going 15-20 lbs, has also begun to show up off Pt Pinos, about 1-2 miles off shore.
Good luck and I'd be stoked to hear some excellent reports.

Hmmm, Point Pinos.  Now I'm thinking about putting in at Coral St and trying that "mile or two out".  Sounds promising and reachable.  Guess it's time to find my lucky coin and make a decision.

Since the Salmon don't seem to be getting any closer to Moss, Randy and I will stick to our end of the Bay.  We will launch from Lover's Point about 6AM and look for one of those south bay salmon flocks out in the 240 feet area..........maybe even up to Pt Pinos.  Company welcome.

Pete,
The reports I got through through the week up to Thurs had the fish on the 51 line, in 160-180ft of water, between Mulligan and the old sand plant.  Consistent limits of fish around 10lbs, with 1 brute (18lbs gutted) in the mix, 45 feet on the troll.

Today, I got a call from an old co worker who fished "off Mulligan" in 250-300+ ft.  Not sure what time he got out, but had 2 fish early, then a slow pick to finish limits.  Said he had one that was 25lbs, but I'm waiting for the picture :smt002

He didn't think it was as hot as the reports indicated earlier in the week, but I think it just was him.

Where ever you go, I'd hit it early and quit early.
