Does anyone know how to unstick a corroded kayak paddle?  I haven't taken my paddle apart in about a year.  Now the two halves seem to be welded together.  I tried getting some WD-40 into the joint but, I don't think it is penatrating far enough.  I need to break down the paddle so it will fit in the cab of my truck (I usually throw it in the back).  Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Greg

Spray the crap out of it with WD40 then take a wooden handle (I used the handle of a rubber mallet) and lightly tap the slip joint. This will break down the corrosion and cause it to start to fall out. Spray and repeat, after doing this a couple of times get someone on the other end of the paddle pulling while your tapping. Once it starts to pull apart spray more WD40 and keep tapping. Once its apart wire brush the slip joint and take 1500 grit sandpaper and lightly sand the inside of the tube just enough to remove the corrosion and allow you to slip it back together but not too much to cause slop between the two half's of the shafts. Then spray with some spray silicone. It took me under ten minutes and my paddle was as good as new.Hope this helps  :thumright:

Thanks,
:smt001  I used 1/2 a can of WD-40 and tapped on it until I wanted to throw it over the fence.  But, it worked and I learned a lesson.  Even if you don't NEED to take the paddle apart..Do it anyway so you can rinse it well.

HAhaha ya been there a couple of times, glad that it worked.. Just make sure you spray it with something, I like to use spray silicone because it doesn't leave grease marks with whatever it comes into contact with. Also I'd spray some spray silicone on the rubber seals of the hatches and latches to keep them from sticking too.
