How to build a rod balancer for bait fishing at anchor that fits in your Hobie sail mount. Mainly it will be used by me for sturgeon and striper fishing. To a lesser extent for catfishing.

I know this has been done before, but I was bored and took some pictures when I made this over the weekend.

You will need 1/2 inch pvc pipe, two 1/2 inch pvc 90 bends, one 1/2 inch PVC tee (T) fitting, pvc glue (optional), and #67 O rings.

The Hobie sail post is just slightly too big for 1/2 inch PVC, and too small for 3/4 inch. By using the O rings stretched over the pvc they create a solid fit. The height of the rod holder is also adjustable by sliding the O rings up or down the PVC pipe!

Here is what it will look like finished. Alternatively you could build it into a double rod holder by using a more T fittings on the cross bar, but that’s too much paying attention for me!

Now I just have to get a few more sturgeon tries in!

Another way to make the PVC pipe fit snugly in the mast mount is to wrap some duct tape around it. The picture below shows a telescoping wind direction indicator for use when jigging which I install in the mast mount on my Revolution.

Nice. And if you get bored while fishing, you can practice kicking a few field goals...
Please don't spoil my day, I'm miles away...

Nope. The crossbar is high enough that the pedals don’t hit it and the upright bar splits the pedals.
