Sheathed 1/4" shock cord in vinyl tubing. A style that I have used before on my other Coosa but this time the shock cord is one piece instead of 3 separate straps.
It does take the hook magnet factor out and I increase the grip on the hatch.

Super easy project with big benefits.
The snagless straps really prove their value on a river run.

I like this idea! Might have to pick your brain a bit on other Coosa upgrades since I just got one

Good idea. I like it.

While the idea is strong the ops are more challenging. Sure, it's bomb proof and hook proof, but when the hatch is off, the shock cord twists up into a rubix level mess.  My original Coosa straps with 3 separate protected shock cords, looks to be the better route.
The vinyl tubing is also sort of a miss. It contributes to the twisting and is already showing signs of sun damage. I have a few ideas that Ill likely test in the spring.

finding clear tubing that will hold up to sun seems like it would be pretty difficult. have you checked out polyrod ? it might not be flexable enough for this application though.  Interested to see what you come up with.

Silicone rubber is highly resistant to UV, and you can buy it in that size. It's also a lot more flexible than vinyl tubing. Of course, it is more expensive, but probably well worth it in this application...

Thanks NwM,   Was easy to find and comes in colors.
On que for multiple trips, so it wont get done for a month or so.
Still plan on going back to the separate strap style and avoiding the twistedness.
