Mr phd.  Let's test your theory and hit up MBK on Sunday.  It's protected from the south swell, right?

to see if there's a south swell, the night before you go, or even that morning
(cause it can hit overnight) check

http://www.lajollasurf.org/ptreyes.html

mouse over the southern swell components. if any are over 2 feet or 2 of them
are real close to 2 feet, you got yourself a south swell situation and you
should go surfing or fish deep or the surface or something somewhere except
shallow santa cruz. if it's over 4 feet you will get sailboats washed onto
the beaches. cancell all appointments, obligations, throw cell phone in toilet
and go surf!

right now fishing is hammered cause you got NW wind, NW windswell and a south swell
all at the same time...

there used to be a nice array of bouys around the santa cruz harbour but those
are gone. If anybody finds a better south swell indicator, please post it up.
you'd think that with modern science they could fund a freaking buoy that would
reliably detect a south swell in the water...  :smt013. right now we are down to
this one buoy...

polepole, the swell is forecast to start dying around sunday, so you should check the above to
see if you can go elsewhere. I have to drop my wife at the airport that morning,
but I might still go fishing afterwards.  or I might just go to the farmer's market and buy
a big salmon tail and smoke it,  :smt002.

normally I would never drive that far (monterey) to go fishing but I'm starting to want
to try it. I definitely want to try andrew molera (pt sur) this year.  anyway for MBK, what
about NW wind and windswell? that place always seems super calm, but I don't understand
why the NW wind swell and wind don't get in there?
