I hit Coral St. early because I knew that the wind would be picking up early since it is so warm inland.  I launched in easy conditions but with big west northwest swells outside and a light south wind.  I passed through a patch of sea foam on my way out that was 18+ inches thick.  The swell and chop was nasty though the wind was not too bad to was damp drizzly fog most of the time.  I jigged a crocodile, an orange grub, and few other assorted swim baits.

The seas were rough and the bite slow.  I had one I never saw come of with in about 10 feet of the boat.  I caught one nice olive on the trouch and then trolled up a really fat mackerel that I used for bait for a little while until he came off.    I wanted to catch a nice ling and tried to stay in deeper water but the wind switched more west by 9: so I headed in a little later.  It is going to be really ugly when it heats up more inland later today.

We are leaving for San Diego this afternoon so I need to rinse off my gear, clean my fish so I can get loaded up for the trip.  I will be fishing La Jolla Saturday with my friend Brian who lives down there.  He is a kayaker but this his first time yak fishing.  I hope we land something he will be a sure convert if we do.  I will post a report on that when I get a chance.

I have a few photos I will post after I clean up.

Get hold of the guys from OEX - Talk to Brent or Brian = great guys! One of their store locations is right on the road that leads you to the beach. These guys have the latest and greatest info. on the fishing - since they are just a few blocks away from the shoreline of La Jolla.

Jim Sammons is also familiar with these waters - he's got ton's of info as well.

Thanks Mooch, I will check them out Friday afternoon to get the scoop.

Here are the photos.  The foam was actually thicker, I had already swept off the deck with my paddle when I took this shot.  Those macks can really pull for little guys.  He just would not sit still for his photo.

I hope the wind and swell dies down soon.

Those macks are "candy" for the WSB and Yellow tails in La Jolla  :smt007 The last time we were at LJ, there were millions of 'em just outside of the reserve. Chuck and I were pitching some irons on the surface and we'd see a dozen or more jump out of the way - all were about 8 to 10 inches  :smt118

Anyway, hope you get into 'em  :smt002

Thnks for the QUICK ENVY post&pics sackyak.  I love :smt011  rinsing/hanging all the stuff when I get home,it puts an extra hr. of FUN into the equation. DAMN SALT!

That FOAM looks NASTY!!
I've been under the water (surfing) after a duckdive, upon breaking the surface i gasped for air, only to swallow(yumy) a thick-layer of foam.

Etienne -

Pretty hard core fishing up to the departure. Hope you hook a YT and don't let them rock you.

Gross!!!!

But, like mooch said, take a sabiki and be prepared to work live bait on a slow troll at LJ.  Good luck.

may the live bait be plentiful, the large socal fish willing and the traffic light.

and if you start to glow green, we will never know if it is that rank socal air you pass through, the nuclear plant or that foam that you went through!
