The salmon bite can be described as slow but steady off the Sonoma coast. We found fish and LOTS of bait w/sw of the head in 350 feet (about 10 miles out). 8 kings for 6 anglers, 3 lost at the net and several silvers and shakers. All fish hooked between 100 and 60 pulls on watermelon Apex. Tried anchovies and other colors with one  shaker. There was very little to no swell but wind waves approx. 3-6 feet. VERY nasty for small craft in the afternoon. The forcast does not look good for the next several days and I don't see to many opportunity's for salmon/yak fishing in the near future on the Sonoma/Marin coast (I hope I'm wrong!). The water was very clear and the fish and bait are deep.

Hey lost coast Joe, keep your fingers crossed for Dux in a couple of weeks.

Thanks for the report, that jives pretty well with what I've been seeing on the Coastside reports.

With all the wind the last couple months we've had some strong upwelling here.  The upwelling brings cold nutrient rich water to the surface near the coast which is pushed out to sea before the plankton can bloom and the bait fish show up.  I think what we need is a good spell of windless days (or at least winds from a direction other than NW).  I'm hoping if this happens the upwelling will relax and it'll warm up the water a bit near the coast and bring in the bait fish and salmon.  Usually this happens by mid to late July, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it'll happen again this year.

I forgot to mention that the water temp was a cool 49-50 degrees and that that fish were averaging 8-10 pounds

Good job Matt & thanks for sharing your tale of adventure and bountiful harvest of the sea.  I certainly look forward to the day we paddle our yaks into the briney blue and bring home a slam-on or two.  Perhaps it will be in the near future, but for now I must bid you a fond farewell and may the lord of the sea (not the guy from Loch Lommond) watch after you.  Oh yeah, and hey man did you realize you are only a sardine :smt011.  I know darn well you've been fishing a heck of a lot more than you've been posting.  It's time you start contributing to this board - dude.

I would post more but I have to spend the majority of my non fishing time at WORK so that I can give back to the LORD (the one at Loch Lommond) boy those shiners are expensive. Oh well you have to pay to play. See you Monday Lost Coast.

hey capt.

On those watermelon Apexes, were you also using a flaher combo or just running them straight.

Just running them straight. Heard some chatter on the radio of some guys who took OFF their flashers and then started getting hit.
