Went to the A last night and spent a little time fishing the slough upstream of Howe for nada.  I think I had a small LMB on for a few seconds, but the bait was too big.  We did get a friends 9 year old son into the tarpon 140 by himself for most of the evening and he had a BLAST.  It's rare that he gets so much freedom to explore, but Matt felt very comfortable on the river and his son had one of the 2-way radios in case he got stuck...

The water is up high enough that many of the small channels in the slough have water and bait fish in them.  Lets hope it stays this way.

We met a couple of guys from the board, but I have forgotten names (sorry)...It was good to see other yak fishermen out there.  their total was also zero, but said some of the PB guys were doing well on live perch drifted along the rocks...

I'll be back out next Tuesday, this time with a small rod for perch before drifting the rocks  :)

This morning we rode from howe to sunrise on the bikes, the water in the upper river looks great, if a bit crowded in places with rafts and bikini-clad noisemakers ;)

I hope to float sunrise to howe in a few weeks, will plan a hookup beforehand.

Jim

That was my dad and I that you talked to Rockfish.  Hope to get down there again soon and work live bait.  Anyone know tips to setup a perch to fish?

7/5/07: Launched from the Howe ramp at 7:30am. Off the water at 10:45am. Had the river to myself. No boats, no bank fisherman to be seen. Paddled up to the outlet near Watt. Tried to work that area, had a hard time staying in one spot. That water is moving faster than it looks. Worked both sides as I drifted back down. The south side moves much slower. Threw poppers, spooks and shad swim baits. Only excitement was when a good sized stiper zoomed right under the boat to take a look at my spook.

Must have been a wild party at Howe last night. The place was trashed big time. Garbage, clothes, fireworks were everywhere.
