Short version:

If your SharkShield was made b/w 2014 and 2016 it might have a faulty switch and under recall.

Long version:

I've been experiencing problems with charging, it would not initiate charging. Most likely bad contacts. Playing with connector a bit solved problems before, but couple of days ago it would not. So I contacted SharkShield asking for help with troubleshooting, and they suggested, for troubleshooting, to try replacing switch. Luckily, in my previous research I found that there was a recall and now they are sending, hopefully, new switch.

To be clear - I don't know if it's switch related. In my case after playing with contacts (cleaning, adjusting cables) and a bit of shaman dancing I was able to charge it again. But SS's first troubleshooting option is to replace switch, and it's supposedly free (have not received mine yet, so don't know).

BTW, I've been frustrated from the day one with SS charging, it was never 100% predictable. But on a positive side - it still holds charge really well!

I think I never been OTW for more than 7 hrs, and it's was still ON (I don't turn it ON immediately though, so probably it's been closer to 6+). It has not been through too many charges though.

Yes, I’ve been practicing using it intermittently, not when I’m trolling but with a fish on yes, mooching now yes, dealing with tackle yes, sitting duck stuff, I still think mine barely goes 5 hrs...

i think the order in which you "plug" things in matters.  i do connector on SS first then outlet second.  or maybe it was just coincidence and the jiggling of things made it work, lol.  i'll have to re-verify again.

Just received replacement switch, might try it some day to see if it makes difference (for now jiggling cables still seem to do the trick)

I wrote a post maybe a year ago about how I found that I had a corroded magnet in the knob on my SS when I removed it after it wouldn't turn on, which I probably bought during the period covered by the recall, though I've never received a recall notice.  I contacted SS, and they sent me a new knob and O rings and I installed them.  Because I thought it was my fault for spraying water past the O rings in rinsing it off, I screwed the new one down so it was difficult to turn, and put some silicone grease on the O rings, both to make a better seal and to allow it to turn while tight.  No problems since. I just dunk it in a bucket of fresh water now, no spraying.  The new knob was free.  I get about 5.5 hrs from mine fully charged, which is plenty for me.  I haven't noticed any drop-off in battery life in a couple of years, though I suppose there has been at least some.  I try to keep it charged even during the winter -think that was mentioned in the instructions.  The charge cable socket isn't a very tight fit, so I have to be careful not to jostle it or it can disconnect.  I always plug it in again the day before I go out, mostly just to be sure it's charged, but also, it loses some charge on the shelf.
