I had a long-time friend in town this weekend so I took him out for his first kayaking experience.  We drove down to Garrapata, but as soon as I stepped out of the truck, I could tell that this was not going to be the place to fish.  Sorry Eric for not leaving a note...didn't even think of that. :knob:  So we drove back into town and launched from Lover's Point.

We had to fish the kelp at first because the wind was a little to stiff to drift.  My buddy got a 14 1/2 inch cabezon and I got 3-4 rockfish.  The wind let up after a while and we headed out to deeper water to find some structure.  Then we saw a bunch of birds diving so we went that way.  Along the way we found a ledge in 100 FOW with some olives and blues suspended at a depth of 20-40 FOW.  Eventually I had 8 rockfish and my bud had 3.  We headed back towards the landing and I found a small hump just off the point.  We drifted over it and as I was reeling in my lure I got slammed hard.  Ended up adding a 28" lingcod to the stringer.  That is my first legal ling inside the bay.

As we approached the crowded beach to land, we were fortunate enough to have some old man in speedos playing paddle ball right in front of us.  His were bright orange...what color are yours Mooch?  :laughing11:

With 4th of July close by....I'm now sporting the "American Flag" colors  :kick That's just how I roll  :smt002

I LOVE lover's point....should gone there instead of MBK (forgot how to get there :smt011). This is where Pat / Seabreeze caught her first halibut. The visibility here is just awesome. The last tiem I was there, I saw a scuba dive below me at 20 feet. I was tempted to lower a one ounce jig tipped with a $5.00 bill and see if I could get him to bite   :smt005

Will this place be closed down to fishing soon? When? I'd like to fish it before it does.....

Nomad - a nice fat ling you got. Your dinner must be good.  I would join you if I knew you were there. Next time we have to hook up before breaking up. :smt002
