MUIR SALMON

Landed at Muir at 6 am. Heavy fog. Got up my courage to paddle out solo. A little while later the fog lifted and I was joined by the fleet. No bites for anyone, and the fleet headed off to dux. I stayed alone for a while with no bites. Finally, decided to paddle off to Dux. After a couple miles, I decided it was too far. Tried for halibut in the bay of Muir. No luck. Met up with KayakJack, Junior and a friend of their's. No fish for anyone. Called a friend in SF who checked Coastside and the report was already in the the bite was hot at Dux at 8 am, and salmon were huge!  Aarrr.   Very little wind, good conditions, but wrong place at wrong time. Gabe, glad you came out. i was happy to findout about that alternate put-in. sorry about the vhf lameness on my behalf. i could hear you but i guess my batteries died and it wouldn't broadcast. it was my first time at muir but not my last.

How far is the paddle from Muir to Dux?

6 - 7 miles if you go in a straight line but count on more like 8 if you go up to rocky pt and head out + zigzag mileage

It makes for a long ride home after a day of trolling but "usually" the wind works in your favor if you do it that way Don't make any dinner appointments or you'll wind up with a pissed of wife or girlfriend

One good thing is Muir is a usually a pretty safe landing in the dark



From the coastside reports it didn't look like that hot of a bite more like typical Dux action and good grade fish It sounded like most boats skunked Last time I was out I was maybe 2 miles outside of the buoy and there was miles and miles of bait so the fish are probably coming through there fat and happy


My butt is just itching to sit on a kayak right now
