I am now retired and have more free time to fish. With that, I am looking for some fishing trips to tag along with so I’m not solo. I would like to try the Bay for some halibut or cod but have never fished it so need someone who has. I have done lots of fishing on the north coast for cod so not a novice but have never fished the Bay Area. My current ride is 14’ hobie pro angler so I generally launch from a ramp/dock etc.
I’m in Sacramento so would need to plan a little for the drive etc.
If nothing else maybe someone can provide tips on where to launch and park etc and maybe I can find a partner up here.
Thanks for any thoughts / tips.

Welcome aboard Chuckfish  :smt006  There are quite a big group of us in the Sacto area and I am sure they will chime in.

Welcome retired guy!  Keep posting and at 10 you’ll have access to the “members”  hookups and reports and study.  That section has many answers embedded in threads for location of launch, who caught what and how, and the gear section is loaded with ideas.  First you gotta pick species and go from there.

Welcome!  I generally have more time to fish during the week.  I'm no pro at the bay but I'd be happy to join!

Welcome to the retirement club!! I don't have much experience fishing in the bay, but I have gone out a couple of times at the Alameda Rock Wall for halibut. First time I was nervous, but it didn't take long to get comfortable. I fished along the wall only a few hundred yards from the wall, water is only around 10 feet deep. fish early morning before the winds kick up, off early afternoon. I always see kayaks out there, average 5 kayakers during the week. I used frozen anchovies, single hook with 3 oz weight, troll around 2 miles per hour, when you get a hit just keep trolling for a little bit longer and reel it in.

Good luck, Ron

Welcome!  and congrats on the extra fishing time!

I'm usually fishing from kayak Sunday and Monday, I'm in the South Bay, but usually go out to San Mateo County Coast.  Open to meeting up somewhere easy for both of us to go to, haven't checked out any of Marin County's coastline at all, I've only ever launched from a ramp at Half Moon Bay, and it's a pretty nice easy ramp, but your car/truck may need 4wd, it's pretty steep and slippery or you'll probably want the use of a cart.

Hook up with moo moo outdoors I think he’s from Sac.
He goes often to the bay that’s what I meant.
But yeh rig yourself up for salmon trolling. Read them up here in the forums.
Seems like it’s gonna pick up soon in Half moon bay and Pacifica.
And yes welcome to the boards!

Heading to Berkeley flats tomorrow. Hope to beat the wind and be off with some fish by noon, and hope to see some NCKA folks.

Launched out of berkeley at about 8:30 and fished until about 10. It got to blowing pretty good by then and being out solo thought it best to call it when it started white capping. First time in the bay for me and got skunked, but see the potential so will probably hit it again soon. I did get one hit while slow trolling a rattle trap, but no hook up. Gotta say though, the drive down from Rancho wasn’t bad but the drive home was really crappy......so damn many people these days.
Maybe next time I’ll have company and someone can show me some areas.

Glad you got out.  Berkeley is tough I’ve heard, except when it’s not.  Never fished it but it’s all flats so you gotta travel to find structure.
