I have a big bday coming up and if I'm lucky I might get a new outback :-) What FF would you recommend to get for ocean fishing. I have been using a Humminbird 688ci on my Predator and wouldn't not mind a little upgrade. Would you recommend Lowrance Hook 2  5" Spitshot?

Hook2 5 splitshot with gps is what I have. I like it a lot. Simple and reliable. Two complaints. 1) you might need to buy additional maps depending on where you fish and what is/is not pre loaded. 2) cant seem to be able to adjust font size on map so depth readings are tiny. Would be nice to be able to personalize map features like text size.

Other than that though, it’s great. Install was super easy and lasts almost 2 full days w the battery I have (12V 9Ah). Word of caution! Don’t use dielectric grease on the plugs going in to the unit.

Customer service also great. Had an issue, Lowrance sent me a new unit within days.

Interesting. What is the reason for this? I’ve always thought dielectric would protect those pins from corrosion.

On this model in particular they use a semi-air sealed connection. It’s an o-ring on the plug that allows just a little bit of air to escape while the plug is pushed in. I discovered the hard way that the grease makes this seal 100% air tight, which prevents any air from escaping, essentially turning the plug/socket into a piston, and because the air is being compressed, the plug won’t lock into place, preventing any connection.
