I have one of the REALLY cheap WIFI ones from Amazon. Maybe $30 or $35 for a camera, two batteries, all the mounts/ waterproof enclosures etc.

It works. Most surprisingly the water tight box is actually water tight.

My main complaint is you can't turn off the screen so the unit gets quite hot, and the battery dies quickly. Maybe around 45-70 minutes. Also, the power button is super touchy so if not stored carefully, it'll turn itself on in your camera bag and be dead when you pull it out. The WIFI control and file transfer is kinda cool though.

Its results are really cheap looking if the light's not bright:

But its results are OK in bright light:

i have gone through my fare share of camera. From cheap to competitive with go-pro like the YI camera. Each has its place but after getting a gopro 5, its been awesome. The quality is top notch when the lens isn't wet lol Don't get me wrong...its pricely but it just depend what you want to do with it. If you use it on a daily basis I would go with the gopro. If you don't then go with the cheaper alternative.

I'm debating on getting the dji action cam as it is priced the same as gopro for a 2nd camera. I like the front display.

whichever you get, USE IT...post it up. Videos are way better than pictures lol

you can compare the two here on my video

this was shot on a YI action camera. It wasn't cheap back at 300 bucks but had 4k like the Gopro. Gopro was like 450-500 back then.

Here is today footage with the gopro

To me the gopro was more clearer. The YI has a wider angle and longer battery life. If the YI didn't get submerge in water, I would probably still use it lol Since the gopro is waterproof without a housing, it was great!!

You can get the gopro 5 cheap now since the gopro 7 came out. Just make sure you have enough battery and a big SD card. I would go with a 128 gig minimum.

looking forward to seeing your videos. My problem at the moment isn't about getting the footage, its about getting the music to go along with the video!! So many copyright protection these days.

I have been thinking of replacing my old gopro since it has been burning batteries as soon as I turn it on. It gets so hot you can hardly hold it. It has been used quite a bit so I have no complaints.

I was looking at the Hero 5 and 7, it seems you can get a 5 for about $260 (new, not reconditioned) and a 7 for $350. I read somewhere you can get a $100 off a 7 if you turn in any old digital camera with a special offers gopro has if you sign up on line. I signed up and will post here if I see the deal come through...

One question I have is if anyone out there has experience with the 5 and the 7 and what you think about the 7. I heard the 5 is better underwater. I might go with the 7 since there is not much of a difference with the $100 deal if it ever pops up again.

Supposedly the 7 has better image stabilization. Based on some online reviews and comparisons I think it may also be marginally better in low light which would be better underwater. There are some comparisons online. I just bought a 7 and am quite happy with it. However, I went from a 3 to 7 so I have no personal experience with the 5.

Thanks, It looks like I'll be moving from a 3 to a 7. I can't complain much because I found the 3 when I was abalone diving, it was rolling around on the bottom. I might send the 3 down in a crab trap next season, I have always wanted to film what goes on down there.
