Couple of us are heading out from Russian Gulch late this afternoon, probably around 4:00-4:30 for a short jigging trip.
One of us (not me!) has to work, otherwise I'd be out there already... looks gorgeous.

Good luck with the hunt Tim.

Have a great time and save me some fish.

Plan to camp and fish next week from Tuesday to Saturday at Russian Gulch.

Good luck, Tim! Looking forward to the report. Are you taking out the new Scupper?

Yeah took the new Scupper out - really enjoyed it, although not much of a challenge today! I did get blood on my nice white kayak though. (Fish blood, not mine, amazingly.) Spent the better part of 4 hours on the water and still felt good.

Fishing was very slow. Fish were out there at the dropoff, the FF would light up every time I crossed it (drop from 60-70 ft to 90-110) but they were not in a biting mood. Managed a couple of nice Blues, a Gopher and one legal Ling - the only one caught by four kayakers. My buddy Simon got into the Canaries and came up with a 5-pounder!  And another local guy came up with a big Red, the fish we were all hunting for.

But man, was it ever nice out there. A long-period 3-foot swell from time to time, and no wind at all. I didn't want to leave. Ended up cleaning fish in the dark with the headlights on...

I noticed fishing was much slower at RG compare to the last year.
Still looking forward to my 5-day trip next week.

I think the weird weather might have something to do with it. Should be picking up once the wind dies down a little, there has been plenty of upwelling. Just in the couple of days when the wind died, we got the start of a nice phytoplankton bloom; the water was full of "marine snow" - the stuff that looks kind of like snot - it's apparently a good sign of productivity. (Polysaccharide exudates from phytoplankton, according to my marine biologist buddy.)

Thank you for the information.
Will let you know how we do next week.

Thanks for the report. Headed up next Sunday to stay at VD. Hope the weather and swell is calm!

Forecast is now showing a solid week of wind... not looking good for you holidayers. Better plan to get out at dawn and don't go very far out...

i was hoping to get some salt therapy on Tuesday or Wednesday, but the wind and swell forecast makes it unlikely a “go”
