Hey all, just asking for some general advice. Heather and I are going to launch the kayaks for our first trip of the year and deciding on Ft Ross or Timber Cove. Have fished TC before but now Ft Ross. Fishing better at one or the other? Have heard that you go to south lot at Ross to launch in a small cove. Is reef structure better paddling north or south at Ross? Any help appreciated...SHANNON

I fish at Ft Ross quite a bit. I’ve had much better luck north, near those big rocks. Just about 50 yards south of the first rock you come to going North is an awesome spot....very snaggy though! I bet there’s at least a thousand pounds of lead stuck to that structure lol.

The Fort is my fav!

You can do good both north or south
South to alot of structure and then the reef or
north to Phil’s spot or way north to the two rock islands
Do what the wind is telling ya...
If it’s coming fromNW, go north and let the wind blow you back to launch
Be prepared to walk a small distance from the launch to where
You park ur car.
Gate opens early

Fort Ross is great on a mild day. Those snaggy rocks to the north? Can have big surf on even a medium day. I've gone south and done well in 60 FOW more or less. I've done better in 30 FOW, but if there's any swell look out for sleepers!  Good thing I wore my brown wetsuit.
I've also tried a crab trap at FR, and caught one flounder. I'd think  there were dabs out deeper, but never found 'em. Anyone else have experience with Dungies or Dabs at FR?

Thanks all for the great intel...funny thing as Sonoma is my home water but I hardly fish here. I know shelter cove better than Sonoma coast and sort of embarrassed. Gonna launch at Ross and go north!
