If a new kayak is not in the near future, I'd at least consider some of the other members recommendations to upgrade the drive/fin. 

When I first started, I had the standard fins, thought they were ok UNTIL I got the turbo fins and trust me, it makes a huge difference.

Or if you want something a little smoother, look into buying or rebuilding to the GT drive.
If you ain't first, you're last.

Thank you!  It'll probably take me some time to save up for a new kayak, so I'll be taking a look on working on this first!
