I just want to be able to keep my dream of a 40+ incher alive for the whole day.

As long as RF/lingcod are targeted the same way, there is nothing wrong with fighting and releasing a 40" ling in possession of a smaller one, correct?  That said, is offering an 8" swimbait on a 6 oz jig head tipped with a whole squid really targeting RF anymore?   :smt001

I have no research to back this up, but I bet recreational fishing has ZERO impact on the RCG fishery. It’s stupid to lower the limit for recreational guys, absolutely kills charter operators and other people who have negligible impact on the fishery, but for whom a limit decrease is a job killer. Decrease COMMERCIAL limits, let recreational fishing thrive!

Luckily you can easily become armed with all the latest research at:

https://www.pcouncil.org/

And then likely be embarrassed at how wrong you are.

Thanks Crash and Azikr.  The most effective measure for reducing my take was watching Widgeon and Ariel paddle around all day and keep I think it was 5 fish between them.  No mistake they were the biggest fish I'd seen, but they returned most of their fish. I was embarassed to have those 2 lb-ers in my bag....hungry little predator that I am...
