Hey All,

I have a Diawa Costal TWS reel that is only about a year old. I was just messing around with it and discovered there's an issue with the drag. If I tighten the drag down it engages, but when I go to loosen it has less drag but not that much less even if I back the star knob all the way off. Then if I push the release/casting lever and then reel/engage it again, the drag is all the way off as it should be.

Any thoughts as to what's up? I'm hesitant to pull the thing apart but I guess I will if I have to...

Thanks.

Hmmm...I would think they might give it a warranty service?

Really simple reel to service.  Go to YouTube and find daiwa coastal tws video tutorial.  If your star drag was working fine before, one would suspect/hope the issue is straightforward.  In any case, you should service your reel regularly.

If you get stuck, post on AlanTani.com and you'll get all the help you need.

Cheers,
John

Sounds like corrosion in the drag stack. Take it apart make sure all washers are smooth and slide freely on and off the shaft. Check to see if your  Belleville washers still have spring and are facing the correct way. Replace drag washers and grease it up.
