No need to overthink it: throwing swimbaits works quite well. If you want to get more complicated, the attached picture shows the common live bait and bounce-balling (trolling) rigs.

I think I have about 3 or 4 feet of line between the swivel/dropper and the flasher. Curious to hear what NowhereMan uses.

The forecast for tomorrow shows winds from the west at 12-13 knots, which is common afternoon conditions on the bay. I'm still planning to try for halibut after skills practice.

I'm going have to bail.  Some problem just came up at work.  Hope you get a hali KPD.

I go with 4’ or less to the dodger then about 12” to 15” to the hoochie. The leader for the sinker is 12” or less. And I use a slider instead of a 3-way, since that sometimes helps in getting snags undone.

IMHO, the key component is the dodger—you want something that stays low, rather than riding up, and has a  wide, slow movement. The brand that I’ve had by far the best luck with is Gibbs.

Sorry, I'm bailing as well. Had a lower back flare up yesterday and not quite ready for something that strenuous. Definitely down to try it again, even on short notice. Good luck with the flatties!!
