Anyone heard anything or had experience with Thule racks?  I just got some for my car and they seem pretty sturdy.  Hopefully more than the Yakimas that simply clip on.  I strapped the yak onto the racks and took it down big sur last weekend and it seemed ok.

I love my Thule ski rack purchased earlier this year for my wifes Honda CRV.  I got the 6 pair pull-top designed ones that slide out and think its pretty sweet.  Would have gone back to Thule, but they didn't support my Honda Accord 2Door.  I can say that the construction of the racks are fairly similar.  I prefer the square bars as opposed to the round Yakima setup.  Just about every trip one of the hully-rollers slips backwards as I load or unload the yack because I didn't hand tighten it down again on the round bars.  But until I get a new car, this is what I have to roll with :)

Due to issues with Yakima Hully rollers and driving on forest service roads, my truck is now sporting a Frankenrack.  Yakima mounting rails bolted to the camper shell, Thule risers and bars, modified to work in Yakima rails vs Thule rails, and the Yakima rollers and Mako saddles. I have another set of bare Thule risers and bars for moving my cataraft around.

One convenient aspect of the Yakima bars, is that they are round. This gives them great flexibility. However, put a heavy kayak on the hully rollers, and drive on crap roads, and the rollers now have enough of a lever arm to twist the bars within the risers. Hence the use of the rectangular Thule rails, and the later Yakima mounts that work with both round and rectangular bars.

Regards,
Scott
