I'm getting over being sick for the last 2+ weeks so I've been out of the loop. I had been fishing for sturgeon down at the powerlines at Montazuma. I havent had much success but have have several very light bites. During that time a lot of guides boats were saying that the bite wasnt great and the fish werent staying on the bait. Since I'm starting to feel better now, I'm thinking of going back at it sometime this week. Any thoughts on where I should go...should I keep at it were I had been?

I've never been out there so I have no clue where to go. How's the launch and how far are they going out? Also how deep is the water... average. Just want to make sure I bring the right anchor rope. I dont like haveing 100 yards of extra rope in the kayak so I have several pre rigged. I dont like going out before sun up in a place I've never been by my self so any info would be awesome! Thank you for the tip!

The two launches I know of are Bullhead Flat and McNears. They are very close to each other. People catch sturgeon from the pier at McNears so you can stay near shore if you like. I caught one launching from Bullhead Flat and paddling a couple miles. Where to fish probably depends on where they are concentrating and that changes. The wind tends to blow across the bay building up a nasty wind chop so that is a definite factor. Depending on location and tide the current can be strong. I caught mine in 8 fow. There are a lot of shallows, but some deeper water also. The two launches are parks and have gate hours. Bullhead Flat has some parking on the road so you can arrive early and walk in. I’ve heard when the tide drops below 2 feet you have to drag you kayak thru the mud at Bullhead Flat to launch or land. I’m not sure about McNears.

The charm of fishing is that it is the pursuit of what is elusive but attainable, a perpetual series of occasions for hope.  ~John Buchan

Thank you for the great information! Deffently will be keeping an eye on tides because I'm not going to drag my hobie PA14 through mud... Just a little too heavy lol. l was thinking of going this Friday but it looks like it's going to be 15 mph winds. I'll just have to keep and eye out for a better day. I'll let you all know when I'm going and if any want to join me feel free! Group fishing is more fun!
