I want to buy a tandem pedal drive kayak this year.  My eyes are on the Hobie Oasis.

Is there any other kayak I should consider?  The Tandem Island is awesome, but a little out of my price range.

I'd be using this mostly to fish around the sf bay, half moon bay, and the bay area lakes.

I considered the duo, but then I thought I would definitely appreciate the extra weight capacity of the oasis since I’m a 200lber. I think the difference in weight capacity was 475lbs compass duo vs 550lbs oasis.
I am also considering buying used. Is the 180 drive a must have? Or do you all find yourselves not really needing the reverse option?

I own 2012 & 2018 Oasis.  Recommend getting one with 180 drives for fishing.  I purchased the 2018 Oasis with sidekick which was used only once for $3000.  Best place find used kayak is Craigslist.  I save my search with email notification option.  If you need any help with a purchase, please let me know.

Thanks Paul.  That is exactly what I want!  Color + add-ons and everything.  Seems like a great deal with all the add-ons.  Too far for me though, as I'm in San Francisco.  I see the dealers in my area have barely used Oasis kayaks for $3,499.  Seemed like an OK deal, until I saw that craigslist post you shared.  Guess I'll look around more before going to the dealer.

I have a 2019 PA14 and the 180 makes it real nice for fishing! I know they are a lot more $ but the PA17 can handle a lot of weight.+ u have a lot of fishing room.  Wouldn't rule them out. Might go to a dealer and test out the different models to see what one fits your needs the best.  Then look for your deals. They are a lot of $ so please to as much research as possible. It sucks when you buy something that you thought would work and then a year later you realize it's not exactly what you were after.... ive been through that expensive learning curve.

I hear you. Something I’ve learned from all of my hobbies is that I end up spending a lot more money in the long run by going for the “beginner” setup. Better to just buy exactly what you want the first time and not upgrade until something significantly better comes out. Seems like the 180 drive is something significant, especially if I intend to use the kayak mostly for fishing. I will def check out the pa17. Didn’t even know the pa came in tandem. Thanks for sharing!
