Mr. Limpet and I headed north for 2 days of fishing at Big Sur this past weekend. We met with Brendan of Central Coast Kayakfishing on Thursday night and made our plans for Friday morning. Brendan guided us to a secluded cove that has a protected launch. This was important because the water conditions were bumpy with large swells due to raging winds on the outside.  In spite of the roller coaster swells, we were able to access a near shore reef for a short session with a steady pick of rockfish, including a couple of fat reds and legal ling for me.
Saturday we launched out of Limekiln into a nasty shore break with PAL from San Diego. The wind and waves kept us from reaching our intended destination, so we went with plan B and padled back to work the kelp beds near the launch site. Mr. Limpet and I both scratched out legal lings, plus a couple of rockfish. My secret weapon turned out to be the octopus barfed up by a fish (ling, maybe?) that Paul caught - thanks Paul. I buried a jig head in the body and bounced it on the bottom while trolling/drifting.

Thanks again, Brendan for all the assistance, it made the trip a success. I recommend contacting him if you are headed to the area. He is a very knowledgeable guide and a totally cool guy.

I've tried 'used' octopus on a couple occasions and didn't get anything to show for it.  Glad to hear it work somewhere.
The legend lives on from the Chippewa on down
Of the big lake they call Gitche Gumee
Superior, they said, never gives up her dead
When the gales of November come early.
