pigeon point vs bean hallow, what do you think?

i was at pigeon point light house and bean hallow area on sunday, not fishing but just checking them out. i notice a protected cove near the light house with pretty much no wind and waves, makes it a nice launch spot. bean hallow seems like it could get pretty bad. i'd like to try both out but i haven't really surf launched before so what do you guys think about fishing, bottom, swell, wind conditions etc...

they are kind of the same as they are so close, but most fishing has been done at bean hollow by this crowd.

in the end, it is an easier launch.

one thing to remember is that pigeon point is like a local pt conception, the weather can change a lot
right there.

below pigeon is much more south facing.

on sunday, with a south swell, and not much north west wind swell, bean would be the choice.

if there is a north west windswell, you are right you can be protected south of pigeon point.

two good launches are bean hollow and davenport. davenport is south of pigeon point and
bean hollow is north. recently the fishing at davenport was not so great, but I have had
good fishing there before.

if the wind is really blowing, go to santa cruz, seems like you already got that part down. when the
anchovies come in, make yourself a bait tube, fill it up with anchovies and you will do well there.

i typically don't drive down to monterey, but the fishing is clearly better there than santa cruz.

Pescadero, just north of bean hollow, has less challenging surf - but it's a rocky shore so failure is potentially worse.  For surf-competant veterans it may also be a good bet.  I haven't had anyone dump there yet.  You launch from the south side of the isthmus to the big rock.  I think there's slightly better structure at bean hollow though, I haven't had great luck right at pescadero, rather I paddle south a ways.
