I lost my Ego rubber net at Albion.  Rather than replace it with the same thing, I thought I would reach out to the "community" for recommendations.  I would like to get something that I could land a salmon with but my primary use would be for rock fishing and Ling Cod.  What should I get?

Thanks,
Martin

I'm not sure there's a "one net/all fish" answer to that.  I have one for bottomfish and a BIG one for salmon...

I'm sure it is a good net - I have one - but it's a bit big and clunky for rockfish.

Remember, the regs require a net when fishing on the ocean.

Make sure it’s 18”x18”. Fish and game didn’t seem to keen on a triangle shaped net when I talked to them a few months ago. The warden said he would probably let one slide, but some other wardens might be sticklers due to not being 18” all the way around.

I would hope that a warden would be reasonable about this if explained to them.

You would hope that, but then the Warden would say "the law is the law" and write you a fat ticket with no expression on his face.  Been there, and it raises one's blood pressure a bit.

I have used the Ego net for up to an 18# Ling, but only cause it was all I had, and it was overmatched.

If you want one for large Lings, Cali Hali and Salmon, you need something bigger for sure. I like the Promar pretty well. I am going to shorten the handle a bit.

I have a Ranger 9930 with a 34" x 32" hoop and 48" handle. It weighs 2.3 lbs. It is big and awkward, but I can lay it flat if I need to pedal into the wind, and I love how it swallows big fish. I stuffed a strip of pool noodle inside the handle so it will float.

I have used it regularly in salt water for the last two years, rinsing it after (almost) every use. The leaf spring for the push-button rusted out recently, but I contacted the manufacturer and they promptly sent me a replacement and a spare for free. All the other parts have been holding up great. It sells for around $55.

Go big or go home.
I shortened the handle on mine and slipped a pool noodle over a portion of the handle.
Simple and works like a charm.
