Legality of using salmon scraps for crab bait

So I haven't really checked the regs.....but am wondering, I saved all the carcases/guts n gills/innards from my salmon this year and vacuum packed and froze them for crab bait. Totally legal to use.....right?

I don't see why not, you caught the fish in the salt and using them back in the salt.  I'd think there'd be some blurry lines if you took the carcasses from the salt and used them in the freshwater lakes and rivers, or vice versa.

But don't take my word for it, I didn't read the regs specifically for salmon carcass and I've been using rock/lingcod, halibut, and salmon carcasses for as long as I can remember as crab bait.  So shame on me??

No, no particular reason. Salmonids are a highly regulated fishery so wanted to check before using. As I said, didn't really read the regs, just wanted to make sure it was ok.

You can use any legally acquired fish except tilapia in your crab pots.

Good question.  It's not the only seemingly arbitrary regulation in the book.

You should be ok if the tilapia is dead as the heading for the tilapia restriction is in a live bait section, but the reg itself only says:

§27.10.
Tilapia may not be used or possessed for use as bait in ocean waters.
