I kinda like # 5, I think.  snicker.

BTW, the LGF Radio show will begin airing at 6pm starting next week.  Kind of a hassle, but the station sold our time slot to a 5-nite program.

also, the show is aarchived at sportfishingreport.com, and Chad wil soon have an archive index for easy lookups for any particular show from the past.

Kenny Satgnaro provided some great insights into the peculiarities of Springtime Rockfish tonight.

Hey Allen,

Ben Here :smt001, I did catch your show Thursday night. First time listening, lots of good info and learned a few things as well. Hope the water clarity and temp affecting the fishing in our bay improves. I have a great concern of the closures about to take place as early as this summer. Are we going to have a bay to fish in? Let me know your thoughts. Thanks - Ben

Hey Ben:

Thanks for the support.  We try to be informative and entertaininng, and lately have found that we also have to be somewhat political on the radio show.

Yes, we will have a bay to fish in, just less of it. A couple prime spots for rockfish will be off-limits for now, most notably the Ano Nuevo area in the north, and the Pinnacles area in the south.

If you "search" mpa or mlpa on this board, you'll find a few very good discussion threads whith a wealth of info and opinions.

My stance on the isue in short, is this:

Our established regulatory agencies have done a fine job in cooperation with us, as conservation minded anglers, to protect and sustain our fisheries.  Bag, season and size limits I think do more good than wholesale area closures, which tend to focus use and perhaps oversue on adjacent areas.

The MPA process inspired by the Magnussen act, administered by the PFMC, and implemented by the Fish and Game Commision of California, has turned into more a political effort and is fueled by wealthy focused national eco-groups who are far ahead of us lowly fishermen (and women) in furthering an agenda. (It's safe to say that most of them do not fish, but feel the need to have conrol.)

The process is insanely political and any effective response must be political as well.

That's why it's important to become conversant with these confusing issues, and make our voices heard via the various groups available to us.  Those groups include the RFA, Coastside, United Anglers, etc.

Hey Allen, Ben here - There's a rumor that WSB are in the bay. Can you touch on this on the show tonight. I also saw a few boats this morning near the former soldiers club near fort ord. They appeared to be mooching as non were trolling. If you can touch on any salmon action as well that would be appreciated. The water in the bay was absolutely flat last night and this morning. No wind at all along Del Monte Beach and the Hotel. Might be a good time to think about Halibut.

Thanks - Ben

Hey Ben,

I caught this halibut right in front of Monterey Bay Kayaks - with my "good luck charm =  Allen Bushnell"  :smt002

For the record, every time I fish with Allen, I catch a Halibut  :smt045

a 15 pounder at MBK
a 22 pounder at Davenport
a 12 pounder at Bean Hollow

Allen is one bro that never let's me down  :smt008

Mooch,

with your bare feet in the water, did they just float up? :smt001

Great shot. Will you be at the HMB event or down south that weekend. Someday I'd like to meet you. I'll bring the frying oil and you bring the Lumpia.

haha Joel.......thanks for NOT adding that I couldn't catch one to save my life.......

Mike Sapp just got a 28 lb halibut near the Hotel at MBK/DelMonte. Yesterday I think. His first.  CONGRATS!!!  You da man Mike!  (ps I lost my cell overboard so i dont have your # mike)

More halibut being caught in SC from Lighthouse to Capitola.

And, yes a few small (like 28-30") WSB were caught from the kelp edge at Capitola on Monday I think it was.  Fly line live bait.

43 pound salmon caught in SC on Monday by 14-yr old.

We'll likely touch on these topics on the show tonight as well as salmon fishing up the coast, inland trout, SoCal conditions, and Bay fishing.

7-8pm on KSCO or go to www.theletsgofishingradioshow.com and click on the microphone for live stream.

Bill is going to archive the show on this site as soon as we (I) get  it together, so that has got me even more stoked!

Cheers

Allen

Looking forward to fishing with you. Frankfishing

Hey Joel,

Great photo. I was hoping to go out with Aaron tomorrow but gotta work :smt012 The bay has been flat for the last couple of days. Went by the hotel on Del Monte this morning about 10:30 and the flag was hanging low not even moving. Could have launched from the Hotel. Planning on a trip with SCAllen in the very near future. Still waiting for my Kayak to come in. Hope it's here by the 10th. May have to show up at HMB as the designated a cook  :cook
