Fourth of July started early for me and my clients at Trinidad.  Kevin and his son Keenan have been on SOT kayaks before, but they'd never pursued rockfish or lingcod or been offshore along the Nor Cal coast.  Seasickness wasn't a factor, and my guys did great to navigate a couple miles from launch and land some of the mainstays of PNW nearshore fisheries.  Visiting from Ann Arbor, Michigan, the guys and their family didn't really have the means of retaining any fish for the day, so it would be all CPR.  This turned out to be pretty cool for me, since I'm usually ripping lots of gills and fattening up stringers during the trips.  This father-son team had a great time and caught plenty of fish in a short session, and it was nice to hit Trinidad for my first time since 2016.  We also had a chance at salmon with some keepers landed in close while we were out there, so all of our fishing was barbless.

It's back to Trinidad for me and a guest tomorrow, and back to Shelter Cove as often as possible through Halloween when salmon closes.  Get your Humboldt on!  :smt001
