My trailer question is for those of you that have kayak trailers, do you get charged full launch or is it still consitured a car topper or is it per kayak thanks.

Pat,

I don't have a trailer, I use a rack on the truck but I often launch two kayaks and it seems to depend on any given day. A lot of local (to me) ramps usually charges us half the cost of the launch but on occasion someone will charge us the full price because we are launching two kayaks. I know that probably doesn't help much, but I have found once they get used to seeing us and realize we tie up the launch for like less than a minute, over time they go back to charging us half the launch cost.

What we do for launching off a ramp:
Pull in and find a place close to the ramp but out of everyones way. Unload the kayaks and start gearing up. Once we are just about geared up and everything is out of the truck I will go park the truck and then finish gearing up. Then we usually will pick up both kayaks and walk them to the ramp, float the kayaks and check that the balance is good and paddle away.

If you do something similar you may avoid full launch fees, however if you are ready to go on the trailer and basically launch like any other boat would you will probably get the full price.

If you don't wanna pay any fees at all I'd say just park your car and trailer in the lot, gear up there, and then just roll your yaks to the water with your favorite yak cart. That way you can take your time and not get boaters pissed off at yakfishermen for becoming speed bumps on the ramp. Some boaters out there have no class and might ruin your day fishing by doing something really lame. Get yer yak on yer cart and get outta Dodge. :cowboy_smoke:
