We did our first family camping trip 5/27-5/28. It was a roaring success, until around midnight. That's when the little one started to really fret and fuss, and wouldn't sleep unless mom or dad was holding him. Since mom was feeling miserable due to congestion, that means that mostly dad got to spend hours trapped in one position, holding the little rascal. Eventually dawn came, the baby was fed and all three of us got to take another nap. All of us really needed the nap. A lot.

On Sunday, back when life was still beautiful, both parents got to do a little paddling. As usual, the setting was great, and I even got to fish for a little bit. It's still early for bass in the Sierras, but I had half a dozen aggressive, puny fish to hand, and another dozen LDR or bites. All fish were in 9 feet of water or deeper. The surface may have been 72 degrees, but below 18 inches, it was C-O-L-D. Monday morning, before the breeze came up, the bass were chasing Damselflies in the shallows.

James got to sit in a kayak that was actually in the water. Disclaimer, I'm disobeying all sorts of rules and regulations, but we're in all of 2 feet of water within 20 yards of shore. Hence the missing safety equipment. Come the time that James goes kayaking for real, he will be wearing his PFD. That ought to be next weekend :)  James got the overall happy camper award for the outing. He took to dirt and grass and pine needles like the son of a primitive that he is. Mom is going to have a hard life...

Scott

Cool report, Dad!  And, sorry, Scott, but "primitives" don't sign off with "regards"!  I can accept that you're possibly a "bit rough" at times, but primitive?   :smt003

Erik,

I believe that I rate "primitive" status due to the "non-bathing" and "homeless" clauses. On more than one occasion, after the age of 40, I've gone multiple weeks without a shower :) I also spent several months living in Chateau Nissan, aka the camper shell of my pickup. In the winter. In Colorado. With my cat.

Regards,
Scott
