Hey people  :smt006
I'm about to place an order for some lead and wanted to get some insite on what's a good range of weights styles and quantities to fill an onboard tackle box pluse some restock extras.  I've been looking online and found a guy on Craig's list that seems to have the best pricing for mix and match colors and styles.  Below is what I'm thinking but please let me know your thoughts. I got some light stuff but being unfamiliar with local currents / drifts and what it takes to get straight down with out a bunch of scope in my line. I'd hate to be under gunned.  My eyes tend to get bigger than my wallet.  Though granted loosing gear for a newbe is part of the game.
Jig head
Torpedo
Egg
Pyramid Weights
Moocher/Spin Sinkers
Ect......

My thought are mainly focused around 4 and 6 oz with maybe a few 8oz these seem to be the hardest to locate locally in stores.

Thanks for any input/ advise given

J. Ice

I think it depends on your target species, depth, and drift as you stated.  What are you wearing up for and where?

For lings I usually use 4-6 ounce jig heads, most of the time I use 6 ounce since I  usually fish a spot in high current in about 60 to 80 feet.

For dabs I use a 4 or 5 ounce pyramid since they hold in sand.

Have fun!
