The Unfinished Business charter is all paid up! Thanks everyone.

Our trip on the Islander will depart out of San Diego's Fisherman's Landing on Sunday June 3. Plan to rally around 6 pm to load up. We'll leave the dock around 8 pm. Look here for directions: http://www.fishermanslanding.com/directions.html

Capt Shane Slaughter knows we are on a mission. It's our boat until we pull back into harbor on Tues morning around 6 am. San Clemente Island is still the likely destination; if the fish are biting elsewhere, we have the option to divert.

No one will lose weight on this trip - we'll get 3 squares plus anyone who's lazing around on the sundeck instead of fishing on the 'yaks will enjoy between meals snacks. Sodas, water, and basic beer will be available for a reasonable price.

If you have a more discriminating pallet (you're a beer snob like me), in a departure from normal sportboat SOP you are welcome to bring a reasonable amount of your own suds. Someone better bring me some tasty NorCal brew! I'll have a few of the local Ballast Pt ales for you folks. Also feel free to tote along some Gatorade, Red Bull, or your other favorite beverage.

The Islander has staterooms with AC, a couple of showers, and anything else you'll need to be comfortable.

Questions? Post them up here.

Jim Sammons has fielded some gear questions here: http://www.norcalkayakanglers.com/index.php?topic=7981.15

More details as trip day approaches.

Thanks again guys. I wish Stephen were coming with us in the flesh. This is the next best thing. Let's get some!

Thanks for the info, Paul.  Just a little over 2 weeks now!!

A couple of questions:

Any idea how safe the parking is around the landing?  I'd hate to come back and find my truck broken into.

Will the boat be loading up on bait (and if so, what?), or will we be on our own?

I wish Stephen were coming with us in the flesh. This is the next best thing. Let's get some!

Amen to that!!

I have parked there several times to go on charters, seems to be fine.  Wouldn't leave anything important inside.

It's about the same as anywhere in town, not a major problem but it sometimes happens. If you park in the paid sportfishing lot, there may be an attendent all the time but I don't believe there is any security patrol. Like Sean said, just don't leave anything valuable behind. The odds are none of us will have a problem.

Yes, the Islander will take on plenty of fin bait. Probably sardines, although anchovies seem to be more common in the receivers this year. Bring a full assortment of hooks from little ones up to maybe 3 / 0. Also bring or buy some sabiki rigs if you want to fish with mackerel.

Thanks for the info, Paul.

And I'd like to get my vote out early -

I know this is a yellowtail trip, in essence, but I think I'd prefer to hit SCI where there is a good shot at the various bass and 'buts then "chase" yellowtails and possibly never get into them.

Just my $.02.

But I'll be stoked with whatever plan we go with.

I started kayak fishing to get away from most of you...
