I used the same technique with bucktails and grub last week at ARW and it worked for the hali. At one point, I was trolling a three way rig with herring and at the same time bouncing the bucktails. I had more hits with the bucktails than the herring.

Careful... remember you're only allowed one line in the water inside the Bay.

I've used this rig in both my kayak and from shore with success.  Current and swell definitely decides what weight ducktail you'd use.

I'd give him the benefit of the doubt that the bucktail was replacing the weight on the 3-way rig and the herring was presented as normal. Even with a stinger hook on the herring it should still be legal in the bay - one line and 3 hooks total.

Cheers,
Brad

Just a FYI related to gulp baits...Dicks Sporting Goods is offering a (two packs)/$10 + $5 rebate.  Essentially, it comes out to about $5/2 bags. Valid till 5/19

If you guys haven’t been to Hi’s tackle in south San Francisco you have to go! They have some great swim baits!

Tell them the locksmith sent you and the will point you to the exact one I through and caught this guy.

It has no name. Someone locally makes them.
The action that have is beautiful.
