I once almost drowned in Lake San Nacimiento: After a full day of water skiing, tubeing, diving and having a good old time playing in the lake with my family friends, we were going to take one last ride on the tube. As we prep for the run my brother Anton, Captian for the day, throws in the tube but didn't realize the tow rope wasn't fully connected. Since it wasn't no more than a few feet away from the boat, I jump in head first without a PFD to retrive the tube. A surface breeze picked up and took the tube further than I could swim and I started to cramp up and wasn't able to call for help. I started drowning! Lucky for me, Bro recognize that I was in trouble and started up the boat and rescued me just in time. So, this article you shared is a really good reminder to keep an eye out for one another when playing in or near water.

wow, this totally reminded me when i was 5 when i almost drowned in the ocean. we had crab traps out on the beach and i decided to walk out towards them. from what i remember it was a calm day no waves. next thing you know, i couldn't feel the bottom and started to sink and take in water. i couldn't call for help, but after what seemed like minutes, my mom on the beach ran out to rescue me. i didn't even know how to swim either... till i moved to CA and lived in a house with a pool.

thanks for sharing the link!

Several years ago, I pulled a kid out of swimming pool who was drowning. I actually watched for a while
and thought he was just goofing off, before I suddenly realized what was happening. The article says that someone who is drowning will look like they are "climbing an invisible ladder", and that's exactly the way it looked.
I don't like stuff that sucks.

Thank you. I shared with family who have small kids. My daughter quietly slipped under in a Marin jaccuzi when she was three.  A reptile part of my brain pulled her up without conscious thought.  Still dont know how I did it.
