Looking to do a float on the american and fish for shad and stripers along the way (hopefully this weekend).  I'm not looking for any honey holes or specific "trademarked" techniques just want to get in a relaxing morning on the river with some sight seeing and fishing.  What would you recommend as a put in and pull out location? Ideally the float would be relatively short.  Put in at safe light and off the water by 10-11 or so.

I'm not tied to the American either.  Feather or Sac would work too, but looking to avoid some of the boat traffic (especially on the Sac). Thanks

I just did this Tuesday from sunrise to watt. I would recommend launching at watt or lower however I barely saw any shad higher in the river. Was quite a few closer to watt, and with the water low the bigger stripers will be down lower.

Thanks Michael,

I'm thinking about going from Howe Ave just above Sac State down to a pull out location just below the bus 80 freeway.  Not sure what the river is like through there, but part of the point is to get out and learn new water.  I'll post up if I decide to go out.   :smt001

In case you didn't know...The part of the river you describe has homeless encampments throughout on each side of the bank.  The business 80 bridge/railroad tracks gets you out close to cal expo but it is a long hike to the nearest road let alone place to park.

Same here.  The skate park was what I was referencing as a pull out location.
